Girlhood is a photo essay capturing the rituals of teenage girlhood through warm, dreamlike imagery focused on getting ready, the stage you don’t usually see on social media. Through scenes of doing makeup, choosing outfits, making coffee, flipping through magazines, and interacting with personal spaces and objects, the project captures a world that exists somewhere between chaos and intention, balancing stress and softness. Using blur, motion, soft lighting, and candid photography, the images aim to feel more like memories than present reality.

The project draws on photography theories surrounding memory, dislocation, spectacle, and the everyday while responding to the overly polished nature of modern digital culture. Rather than focusing on perfection or performance, Girlhood embraces imperfection, intimacy, and the emotional weight within ordinary moments. This project aims to show that the everyday life of a teenage girl is not superficial or trivial, but meaningful, emotional, and deeply familiar.
